Title: Using e!Sankey with SharePoint?
Post by: evennybakke on June 02, 2016, 03:15 PM
Hey guys,
we're using sharepoint for all files, but I'm having some challenges with having Livelinks in sakney files. Some files are working and others are not.. Have you done any changes on this from version 3 to 4? Is it possible at all to use sankey files with livelinks to excel sheets in SharePoint?

Hi Even,

we do not have a SharePoint at our site, but nice to hear that you have used it successfully. Since starting e!Sankey 3 and now having released e!Sankey 4 we have changed live links frequently - we have fixed bugs and made some improvements. There has not been some major refactoring.

Our tests include using Live Links to files on network storages. And we found out that Excel uses different kinds of path names depending on how the user opens the file - e.g. it may be a difference, if user opens the file by double clicking in Windows Explorer on a linked drive or by selecting Open in Microsoft Excel. We try to normalize the file names to check open documents in Excel, but can not be done in any case. Maybe this is the reason for difficulties using Live Links to Microsoft Excel.

If this does not help, can you please send us more detailed information about the problems? If you get an error message either post it here or send a screenshot. If you run e!Sankey and sometimes inserting Live Links work and sometimes they don't, the e!Sankey log file may help us the get more information about a possible failure. To locate e!Sankey log file, please open e!Sankey About dialog (via Help menu) and click on link to open Windows Explorer at log file location.

If you prefer writing a mail to our support, you can use the following address: support@e-sankey.com

Best regards,

Thanks Jörn,
the challenge you refer to with different paths names when using different opening ways might be the problem. I will try to be consistent when opening the files and see if that fixes the problem. Might get back to you if I run into more trouble.
