While working with e!Sankey, I noticed that the Excel LiveLinks just work with some of the formats provided by excel.
The LiveLinks can solely deal with formats like general, number or scientific. All the other possible formats like currency, accounting etc. dont' work out with the LiveLink function of e!Sankey.

Hello Genisto,

this is the intended behaviour of Excel LiveLinks. There are two ways to retrieve data from Excel cells:  get the 'Text' or the 'Value'. When we designed the Excel LiveLinks feature we decided to use the 'Text'. The advantage of the cell Text is that you can use Excel cell format to trunc the numbers at a specific decimal place. On the other hand the advantage of the cell Value is that you can use cell formats to add units like '€' or '$' without loosing LiveLink feature. We know about this disadvantage and may provide a solution to meet both requirements in an upcoming release of e!Sankey. At the moment you have to place the unit in an extra cell or add extra unformatted cells (you can use for LiveLinks) getting the value from the original cells.

BTW: If you have added many LiveLinks in your sankey diagram: We just worked on e!Sankey LiveLinks to Excel and increased speed of update significantly. This improvement will probably be part of the next e!Sankey release.

  • e!Sankey - show the flow.
    • Umberto - know the flow.
The new e!Sankey 3.1 version released yesterday contains the improvements mentioned by Jörn. The LiveLink now checks and interprets the value of the cell in the Excel source file.
