Floating licenses (concurrent licenses)
« on: July 13, 2016, 11:56 AM »
Floating licenses are now available for e!Sankey. They allow the concurrent use of e!Sankey on any number of computers in a TCP/IP network, and are an ideal way of "sharing" licenses in a team.

A 'Floating License Service' is installed on a server computer that manages the licenses available. On starting e!Sankey the service verifies the availability of a license and hands out a free license. When the user shuts down e!Sankey on his/her computer, the license is handed back to the pool of licenses, and can be used by another user.

Please inquire at sales@e-sankey.com if floating licenses are an option for you.

The licenseserver works niceley.
We've made an installation package for the client software so we can deploy this to other computers. Are there any options to set the correct license server by installation? we've found a solution possibly but that's by copying files in %localappdata%, not that nice...are there any parameters that can be used to set the correct server by installation on the clients?

Thanks in advance.

Regards, Wilbert

Hey Wilbert,

happy to hear that you like the license server.

The default setup routine for the e!Sankey desktop app does not have the option to set a license server name.

To define the license server name to be used with the client installation, you can pre-configure it in the e!Sankey.exe.config. In the <configuration> section search for the element <appSettings>. Then use the line <add key="FloatingLicenseServer" value="SERVERNAME"/>.

For more details and additional parameters see the ifu Floating License Service documentation page 6

I've edited the e!Sankey.exe.config, e!Sankey starts with the correctly using the licenseserver. But it only starts correctly when copied after installation and first run.

When copied directly after installation on first run the e!Sankey.exe.config gets overwritten again due to the a post config ation per user. Copied after first run it works fine.

Is there a solution to have it copied during the first run. If not we can possibly use Ivanti (appsense ) to copy it afterwards but not everyone does have Ivanti.

Regards,
Wilbert
